Data Retention & Deletion Policy
What we keep, how long we keep it, and exactly what happens when you leave.
1. Introduction
This policy explains what Funtoosh stores, how long it stays, and what happens to it when you deactivate or delete your account. It is written to match what the system actually does. Where the law forces us to keep something after you have asked us to delete it, we say so and say why, rather than leaving it out.
Earlier versions of this page described Funtoosh as end-to-end encrypted with a zero-log relay. That was never accurate for this platform and has been corrected — see Transparency for what we can and cannot see.
2. What We Retain
- Account: email address, name and username, profile details, sign-in timestamps, and your settings.
- Your content: questions, answers, Results, and chat messages. These are stored in a form our servers can read — they are encrypted in transit and at rest, but we hold the keys.
- Wallet: transaction records, recharges, Golden Card payments, and payouts.
- Safety records: reports you made or received, automated filter decisions, and any strikes issued.
- Policy acceptance: the version of the rules you agreed to and when. You can see this yourself under Settings → Account.
3. What We Do Not Retain
- Advertising trackers, behavioural profiles, or data sold to third parties. None of these exist.
- Your contacts, address book, or precise location.
- Government ID, unless you complete KYC for wallet payouts — and then only for that purpose.
- Content you deleted, beyond the 180 days window described below. After it, an automated job destroys it.
4. Retention Periods
| Data | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account and content | Until you delete it | To run the service |
| Content you deleted | 180 days | So an open report or investigation is not left unfinished |
| Content of a deleted account | 180 days, admin-only | Same reason — then erased permanently |
| Moderation and filter records | 180 days | Appeals and safety review, then purged |
| Financial and tax records | Up to 8 years | Required by tax and anti-fraud law — we may not delete these earlier |
| Essential cookies | 30 days – 1 year | Sign-in session, theme, language |
5. Deactivating Your Account
Deactivation is for taking a break. It is available at Settings → Account & Data and is completely reversible.
- Your profile disappears from Funtoosh, including discovery and your public page.
- Everything you have written — questions, answers, Results — is hidden from everyone else. It is not deleted.
- Your wallet balance is untouched.
- Signing back in reactivates the account automatically and restores everything exactly as it was.
6. Deleting Your Account
Deletion is permanent. It is also at Settings → Account & Data.
6.1 The 15-day grace period
- You confirm by typing DELETE.
- Your account is hidden immediately — profile and content both, exactly as if deactivated.
- A 15-day countdown begins. You may cancel at any point during it, and cancelling restores everything.
- When the countdown ends, the deletion is finalised automatically.
6.2 What finalisation does
- Your profile is destroyed.
- Your questions, answers and Results are removed from Funtoosh and their link to you is severed, so nothing can be attributed to you afterwards. If you had revealed your name on an answer, that name is erased too.
- Your notifications, hugs, connections and chat records are deleted.
6.3 What survives, and why
- An admin-only copy of your content, for 180 days. If a report or investigation involving something you wrote was already under way, deleting the evidence the moment the account goes would leave the person who reported it with no outcome. This copy is never published, never shown to other users, and is destroyed automatically after 180 days.
- Financial records, for as long as tax law requires. We are not permitted to delete these earlier.
- A record of any forfeited Deposit balance. See the next section.
6.4 Before you can delete
We do not stand in the way of anyone leaving, but we will not let you leave money behind that we owe you:
- Earnings balance: you must withdraw it first. If KYC is required for that withdrawal, complete KYC first. Earnings are transferred on the 1st and the 16th of every month. Once the account is gone we have no way to pay you, so this is a hard requirement rather than a warning.
- Golden Card in escrow: if money is held against a card that has not been answered, deletion waits until it settles. It resolves automatically within 7 days — the card is either accepted or refunded. Stranding the other person's refund is not acceptable.
- Deposit balance: this does not block deletion, but it is forfeited. See below.
7. Wallet and Deposit Balance
Funtoosh wallets hold three separate balances. Earnings are withdrawable. Deposit — money you added yourself — is not, and never has been; it can only be spent on the platform. On Hold is escrow for a pending Golden Card. This is set out in the Wallet Policy.
Because Deposit cannot be withdrawn, any Deposit balance left when an account is deleted is forfeited. The deletion screen warns you about this before you confirm, and suggests deactivating instead if keeping the balance matters to you.
A forfeited balance becomes Funtoosh revenue, which makes it a taxable receipt. We therefore keep a record of it — the amount, the date, and the name and email that existed at the moment of deletion — so it can be reconciled in an audit and so we can answer any later query about it. This is the one piece of identifying information that deliberately outlives a deleted account, and it exists for accounting reasons only. It is never used for anything else and is never published.
8. Deleting Individual Posts
- You can delete any question, answer or Result you wrote, at any time, as often as you like. There is no charge and no limit.
- It disappears from Funtoosh immediately.
- It is destroyed permanently after 180 days, for the same reason described above.
- If you revealed your identity on an answer, deleting the answer removes it — but a reveal itself cannot be undone while the answer is still live. The confirmation screen says so before you reveal.
9. Your Rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask us to give you a copy of your personal data, correct it, or erase it. Write to [email protected]. We acknowledge requests within 24 hours and complete them within 15 days.
Deletion and deactivation are both self-service and take effect immediately — you do not need to email anyone or wait for approval.
10. Our Responsibilities
- Keep only what is needed, for the periods stated on this page.
- Actually run the deletion job, rather than marking rows as deleted and keeping them forever.
- Say plainly what survives deletion and why, instead of quietly making exceptions.
- Update this page when the system changes.

Statutory timelines we work to: acknowledgement within 24 hours; disposal within 15 days; prohibited content under Rule 3(2)(b) within 72 hours; non-consensual sexually explicit or morphed content under Rule 4(1)(p) within 24 hours; court or government orders under Rule 3(1)(d) within 36 hours. Removed content and the associated records are retained for 180 days for investigation purposes. These are the limits set by law for us to act within; they are not a guarantee of any particular outcome on any particular report.
Before we remove or disable content on our own initiative, Rule 4(8) requires us to notify you with reasons and give you a reasonable opportunity to dispute it. Automated tools may flag content, but a human reviews before any account-level action is taken. See the Transparency Report.
Your rights under the DPDP Act 2023
- Notice and consent (§5): we tell you what we collect and why before you agree, and you can withdraw consent at any time in Settings.
- Purpose limitation (§4, §6): your data is used only for running Funtoosh, safety, payments and legal obligations — never sold, never used to build advertising profiles.
- Access and correction (§11): you can view and correct your profile data in Settings.
- Erasure (§12): you can delete your account from Settings → Account. See Data Retention for what the law requires us to keep afterwards, and for how long.
- Retention limit (§8(7)): we erase personal data once the purpose it was collected for is over, unless a law requires us to keep it.
- Grievance redressal (§13): write to the officer named above, or use Grievance Redressal. Unsatisfied with the decision? Appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee within 30 days. Data protection queries: [email protected].
Age: Funtoosh is for users aged 18 and over. Under the DPDP Act 2023 a person under 18 is a Child and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. No guarantees: Funtoosh is provided on an as-is basis. Nothing on this page is a guarantee of any specific result, earning, delivery time or moderation outcome.
